Supervision Contract

This is an individual supervision contract between the following people, on behalf of Atawhai Counselling and Supervision.

We will be guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

What is Supervision?

The purpose of individual supervision is to support and enhance the professional development of the supervisee ensuring the provision of high-quality therapeutic services to clients. Supervision will focus on clinical skills, case management, professional ethics, and personal development as therapists along with the cultural capabilities. 

Practicalities:

●      We will meet once monthly at 1 Gibraltar Cres, Parnell or online by arrangement

●      The cost of supervision is - TBA

●      The space will always be private and confidential.

●      We will each be responsible for ensuring our spaces are private and confidential.

●      An agenda will be set for each supervision session and it will be negotiated together, the order and time allotments.

Responsibilities of the Supervisor

As the supervisor, I will:

·       Provide a safe and supportive environment for discussion and learning.

·       Facilitate discussions, case reviews, and professional development activities.

·       Offer constructive feedback and guidance on clinical practice.

·       Address ethical issues and ensure adherence to professional standards.

·       Maintain confidentiality of all supervisee disclosures, except in cases of ethical or legal obligations.

·       Address clinical/cultural matters as they arise.

·       Will review written material of the supervisees to support with learning.

Responsibilities of the Supervisees

As supervisees, you will:

·       Attend and actively participate in all scheduled supervision sessions.

·       Present cases and clinical work for discussion and feedback. We will decide as a team the exact procedure for bringing cases.

·       Reflect on feedback and integrate it into your practice.

·       Maintain confidentiality of all discussions and case details.

·       Abide by ethical and professional standards in your practice.

·       Bring any concerns or challenges in your practice to the supervision sessions.    

Confidentiality

All parties agree to maintain confidentiality regarding client information discussed during supervision. Exceptions to confidentiality include:

·       Risk of harm to self or others.

·       Disclosure of abuse or neglect.

·       Legal requirements mandating disclosure.

Documentation and Record Keeping

The supervisor and Supervisee will keep their own records of supervision sessions, including attendance and topics discussed. This is encouraged for personal reference and professional development.

Evaluation and Feedback

·       Regular feedback will be provided to supervisees on their clinical skills and professional development.

·       Supervisees are encouraged to provide feedback on the supervision process to ensure it meets their needs.

 Conflict Resolution

Any conflicts or concerns regarding the supervision process should be addressed promptly.

Supervisees should first discuss concerns with the supervisor. If resolution is not achieved, an external mediator or professional body may be consulted. 

Re-negotiation of contract:

At any time any party can initiate discussion around re-negotiation of the contract or any part of it. This should be done in advance so that there is preparatory time available.
